We’re hosting an open house to celebrate 20 years of environmentally safe waste management in Halton Region — and you’re invited! This Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Halton residents are welcome to come to the Halton Waste Management Site at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton, Ontario.
The day will be full of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. Whether you are interested in learning more about the landfill through a guided tour, seeing landfill and collection equipment up close or participating in a craft – there is something for everyone. Xena, the Site’s bird of prey, will be celebrating with us as well!
The Halton Waste Management Site opened in 1992, and had a life expectancy of 20 years, or until the year 2012. With the continued effort by Halton residents in waste diversion — reducing, reusing, recycling and composting, the Halton Waste Management Site will be open until the year 2040! Way to go Halton!
To further promote the 3Rs, we will be collecting unwanted electronics for recycling. Every vehicle that brings in an electronic item at the September 29th anniversary event will receive a free food voucher for lunch, provided by the Lion’s Club of Milton.
Conservation Halton will be leading a children’s craft to create a “Stream of Dreams” art mural to be displayed at the Halton Waste Management Site for years to come. Children will have the opportunity to decorate wooden fish, and learn about protecting our local watershed.
The 20th Anniversary will also host the launch a pilot program to further increase participation in household hazardous waste recycling through the introduction of an Orange Box. At the event, you can fill out a short survey and receive an Orange Box to collect, store and safely transport your household hazardous waste material to Halton’s Household Hazardous Waste Depot, located at the Halton Waste Management Site.
What are you looking forward to seeing at the Halton Waste Management Site on Saturday, September 29, 2012?
