The 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) really do get people inspired, and they sometimes put their passion into song.
I love music and I love to write lyrics & songs… and apparently many other people who care about the environment also share this love.
Here is a small collection of songs I’ve found on the web that sing about reducing, reusing, recycling and reminding us to keep useful things out of the landfill.
I hope you enjoy the 4 songs I’ve chosen and become inspired to put music to your personal voice on the topic of waste!
See if you can guess which one of these four music videos shows the Halton Waste Management Site’s very own landfill…
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!: This video is just one of many home-made videos that have used Jack Johnson’s famous song by the same name. A great message with fun, green energy that teaches and reminds us all, in a playful way, about the 3Rs.
- The Landfill Blues: This video is particularly well done. It’s catchy with good repetition of images to make the environmental message really hit home. Being green can be better than singing the blues.
- I’ll Give You This Guitar: This video shows a photo of a furry alien from outer space thrown away in the garbage and reminds us to give our things to others before throwing them out forever. With a little imagination and elbow grease, what’s useless to one can become useful again to somebody else.
- Sesame Street – Stand by Your Can: This video is a parody of the famous Tammy Wynette tune, that shows how far we’ve gone beyond thinking of just the garbage can to manage our waste responsibly.
Let me know if you find songs online that are worth sharing that also put waste to music. Please post links to your favourites in the comments section. We can compile a longer list of songs for sharing in a future blog post!
